Sustainable Farming Certifications

  1. Rainforest Alignment
  2. Monterey Bay Aquarium Alliance
  3. Regenerative Organic Certification

Rainforest Alliance is determined to leave a positive environmental impact with their Sustainable Agriculture Standard. This certification ensures that the production of food products bearing the label protect natural resources, cultivate better livelihoods for producers, and promote biodiversity.

The ocean, a vast and nutrient-rich part of our planet, provides a wealth of sustenance for all. But to ensure that its resources are used sustainably without depleting fish stocks or damaging marine life ecosystems, it’s important we turn to reliable sources such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch app when buying seafood products. It allows us to select those with certifications from organizations like ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council), BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices), Naturland Standards for Organic Aquaculture, and the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). By making informed choices about what food comes from our oceans, we can enjoy healthy meals while helping foster responsible use of this valuable resource.

Brands committed to social fairness are now required to abide by a new requirement: obtain worker welfare certification before applying for the ROC (Regenerative Organic Certification) program. This extra step is designed to guarantee living wages, protect against child labor exploitation, and ensure fair payment of products from farmers. With this initiative in place, Neptune Health and all companies can confidently strive to provide better opportunities across the entire supply chain. Please read on for more information about specific worker welfare certifications.

Certifications for Worker Welfare

Worker Welfare is at the top of the priority list for Neptune Health. We have applied for our Worker Welfare Certification and are currently awaiting approval. In the meantime, we continue to support worker welfare practices by educating, training, and employing the farmers that grow and harvest our sea moss and the workers that manufacture our sea moss products, far exceeding Fair Trade guidelines.

The Agricultural Justice Project (AJP) is revolutionizing the way we think about food production and consumption. Through their Food Justice Certification, farmers and farm laborers are provided a living wage in an equitable environment. As AJP continues paving the path of justice for our agricultural communities, they also strive to include protections for indigenous rights into future iterations of their certification program.

Naturland is an international organization dedicated to promoting a socially responsible food industry. They are devoted to cultivating sustainable and ethical farming through Naturland Fair certification, guaranteeing fairly-paid workers for chocolate, sugar, coffee, sea moss and other goods that bear their logo. The logo assures consumers they have chosen ethically sourced products.

Buying Fair Trade certified products not only supports sustainable practices, it also provides a direct benefit to producers and their communities. The trusted logo guarantees fair wages and safe work environments while the premium consumers pay goes back into local economies. By choosing Fair Trade, you are making an ethical decision that has far reaching social implications.

Fairtrade International empowers 1.7 million farmers and workers across the world with fair wages through its certification logo found on everyday items, such as bananas, chocolate, coffee, honey, sea moss and grains! By supporting Fairtrade’s ethical, sustainable practices in purchasing these products, you’ll be investing directly into their wellbeing and make a positive impact for future generations.

Consumers looking for ethically-sourced products now have another certification to look out for – Fair for Life. This label can be found on tea, almonds, sea moss and fresh/dried produce, and it’s also extended into other sectors, like cosmetics, clothing, and ingredients used in common household cleaners. With one recognizable seal, you know your purchase is making a meaningful impact.

The Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) is revolutionizing the way we shop for produce, with a unique approach that emphasizes food safety, fair working conditions, and giving workers an equal say in their workplaces. For those looking to actively support this cause while shopping, purchasing certified products like Responsibly Grown Farmworker Assured, which can be found at retailers such as Costco & Whole Foods, is sure to make a meaningful contribution towards creating an equitable future in our global food system.

Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, sea moss or a chocolate bar with the peace of mind that it has been made under ethical conditions. Equal Exchange is proud to provide products sourced from worker-owned coops so you can savor these foods without worrying about labor practices.

Small-scale farmers across the world often feel pressured to increase the size of their operations to compete with large farms in order to succeed. Fortunately, the Small Producer Symbol (SPS) serves as a beacon of hope for these small producers, offering recognition and support through fair trade certification. By providing space on grocery store shelves specifically for SPS certified products, consumers have access to alternative options, giving them back their power of choice.

Buying products with the WFTO logo ensures that your purchase supports a brand at the forefront of ethical and sustainable production. Companies who hold this certification are dedicated to sustainability, fair wages for their workers, championing women’s rights, and protecting our planet. Get behind brands with heart – support those committed to making more than just profit.

Many recognizable sustainable food brands, such as Patagonia Provisions and Dr. Bronner’s, are pioneering the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC) to create a more equitable and environmentally friendly agricultural system. Not only does this certification ensure soil health and animal welfare, it also guarantees social fairness for workers by establishing fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to speak up in the event they have a grievance. To promote further progress toward ethical standards within our globalized food chain, numerous companies have already been trialing ROC standards with success.
